  1. As far back as I can remember, I have always picked my nose. I began picking my nose and eating it when I was young probably because my finger was the best instrument for fishing out crusty boogers from my nostrils, and there was no where else to get rid of the booger other than my gullet. To this day, I am 30 and I still pick my nose and eat it. I very rarely get sick, I have never had the flu, and I am extremely resistent to getting sick even when I am surrounded by sick people. It is gross to think about everyone picking their nose and eating it in our society because of our high standards of hygiene. You wouldn't want to kiss someone if you knew that they had a steady diet of dried snot. However, when you are sick or you just have a runny nose from being out in the cold, you are naturally swallowing a liquified version of boogers. We all eat mucus naturally but unknowingly, but I guess the gross part comes into play when you actually consciously pick a booger and examine it to see if it is fit for eating and then eat it. Some cultures in the Middle East wipe their asses with their hand, and it is acceptable not taboo. Anyway, the point is, a booger a day will keep the doctor away!

  2. Eating your boogers is actually an instinctual primate grooming behavior. We were created with the instinct. Just like a mothers ability to care for her child. Today's society frowns upon it, however modern studies show that it can be helpful. Mucus serves as a trap for bacterias that enter through your nose. Eating the mucus introduces these bacterias to your body in small doses. These doses are not big enough to cause sickness, however they are just the right size for your body to build up an immunity. Many people, including adults, still do this. Everybody is born with the instinct to " Pick their nose and eat it ". Some people are just better at fighting it then others. It could even be more helpful to eat somebody else's boogers. This could introduce bacteria that your body has never encountered before, and this was actually a common practice for humans many years ago. Many scientists believe this is the reason why humans have become susceptible to so many infections the last several hundred years. Our culture has attempted to stop one of our bodies natural ways of fighting infections. There is no cure for the common cold, and there probobly never will be since the common cold is caused by way too many different kinds of bacterias, but there is a way to prevent it by building up your immune system. Even though the thought of this entire subject is disturbing to most, and many people will refuse to believe it, it is backed up by modern studies. There are, however, doctors whom go against this theory. Many people are very closed minded and will never beleive it, and many people have thought it to be gross for so long that even if they do beleive it they could never do it. This is all fine, and the way people are, but don't be so quick to judge somebody the next time you see them fish around for a good one, do a quick check to see if anybody is looking, and quickly shove it in their mouth with a big smile on their face. Afterall, the only explanation for the high content of salt in bugars is for the taste.

Colds are caused by viruses, not bacteria.
