The value of $10,000 in 1960 in S'pore is 10 times more at present and plus interest of 4% per annum. Current prize award for Silver in Olympics is $750,000 and Gold, $1 million. As goodwill gift for an old Hero (LOCAL) of S'pore (an encouragement for the young, YOUTH), it is not much to pay his worth to our Sports World for future Singaporean TARGET of Olympics Medals.

  1. I dont think u can judge a sportsman/woman with the value of the money. He was indeed a Singapore hero, but I don't think he have ever thought of getting any returns, be it in monetary or title.

Plus, I don't think any athlete wants to win just for the sake of money. It is a personal achievement that money can't buy. Personal glory, personal record, name in the history book, etc..

  2. Giving a reward or paying respect is 2 different matters. One is a promise and the other is a gesture. There is always 2 sides of a coin.Ask Mr.Tan himself or answering for him will also produce different answers.

Ask the giver NTUC, it's Fair price indeed.
