  1. I agree with airpole in all but there is a mistake . Piraeus in Ancient times was not considered as a separate city from Athens

  2. I was just there.  It is a separate city, although you wouldn't know it unless someone told you.  You drive from there to Athens and it's hard to tell where one city ended and the other begins.

  3. Yes it's a separate city with it's own municipality and suburbs as well...(Keratsini,Kaminia,Drapetsona,Nik... Faliro etc) It merged with Athens though coz they both got bigger n bigger n bigger..It's something like Berlin/Potsdam or New York/New Jersey...originally it was used by the Athenians as the port of Athens (ancient era)

  4. I was just there.  It is considered the 3rd largest city in Greece, so it must be a seperate city.

  5. Piraeus is the sea port of Athens and ever since the ancient times it was considered a separate city, even though a long wall was surrounding the way there, and in a way joined them.

It is even more so nowadays that Pireas is a self contain municipality and along with its satellite municipalities that surround it make the greater Piraeus region of Attica. It is not considered suburb of Athens and certainly cannot be taken as such.

Tourkolimano or Mikrolimano as is called now along with Pasalimani or Zea are two smaller ports mostly for fishing boats the first and for yachts the other.

Second official port is the Keratsini.

  6. It is a separate city, but it is connecetd to Athens very tightly.
