  1. no, china is the only place lying about ages. US and the rest are fair!

  2. not at all

  3. america isn't communist, and therefore we don't lie and put in our underage athletes into the olympics, unlike china.

  4. The USA has done nothing wrong. It was China that has been accused and there is evidence of wrongdoing. Don't shift blame away from the guilty parties - CHINA.

  5. who are we to say that china did not have legititmate documents proving the ages of these girls? just because it is a foreign country does not signify that they do not have a proper govermental system for these things....for all we know usa may have done the same but have been see as such an superior figure in the world that nobody doubts them

  6. It's not true because it's very easy to verify the ages of a girl in the united states. Many, many, un-affiliated agencies keep records of this information. Unlike in countries like China where one central government controls everything.

  7. No .

  8. not that I heard of anywhere but I could be wrong.

  9. yes and maybe

  10. lol, and people say we (Americans) are the sour grapes?.

Unlike certain countries *cough!-China-cough!*, USA follows the minimum age limit established by the IOC. All of our gymnasts are 16 or older and with valid documents. So no base for accusation here.

  11. I don't think they've been accused as of yet, although, I do agree that some of them (namely Shawn Johnson) don't look 16 years old.

It's hard to look at them and judge their age - most gymnasts DO look very young - they're short and small in stature, many haven't developed due to their intense training.  Added to the slicked back hair, the leotards, and the fact that most gymnasts are under 20 and many look underage.  The Japanese team, for instance, looked incredibly young as well.

  12. Maybe, but we have nothing to worry about.

In fact, most of our athletes are much older; Nastia is 18 and Alicia is 20. That's considered rather "old" in gymnastics.

Also, I remember seeing footage on NBC of Shawn Johnson driving. She wouldn't be driving if she weren't 16. They wouldn't issue her a license.

  13. "Uncle Sam" perhaps you should take a look at YOUR OWN questions and answers before reporting this one... as they are all equally ignorant. This asker has a REAL question and I don't see anything wrong with it...

Anyway, I haven't really heard any major reports regarding the US gymnasts - and I do not believe the American Olympic team would pull something like this (this is not an American's opinion - i just think sending under-aged athletes to the Olympics is shady business and I just can't picture the US national team doing something like this). My best guess is that China is trying to get back at the US gymnasts after the "accusations" that were made regarding the age of a couple of the Chinese gymnasts (most notably, He Hexin). But yes, the IOC has finally committed themselves to a proper, and full investigation on the age of some of these gymnasts (yay!)... particularly the ones from team China though, because there has been actual evidence surrounding the matter.
