IS there a way to ship my car 1,000 miles from LA to Portland,Orgeon without driving it?

"m thinking about moving from LA to Portland,Oregon in late July. My car is a 9 year old Toyota with almost 100,000 miles on it. Driving from LA to Portland is 1,000 miles. As a single person with nobody to share the driving with I don't think I can do this much driving alone. It would take me 3 days and I would have to spend 2 nights in a hotel along the way.

Besides shipping my car on a truck is there a way to pay someone to drive a car somewhere for you?

  1. There are often ads in newspapers (or nowadays online)

looking for people to drive cars from here to there.

There might be agencies who link up drivers with cars,

with names like "Drive-Away" or similar.

(A Google search on "drive away los angeles"

turns up a number of sites, such as this one:

    http://www.autodriveawayla.com/ [I have no idea

    as to their reputability].)

EDIT: [ Also search under "Auto Transport",

which will include some shippers.  Here's an overview

It's a way for someone in your position to link up with

    someone looking for cheap transportation.

Of course the risk is that, with a stranger, you don't

know when (or if) he'll show up at the other end,

or how he'll have treated your car.

    With a 9-yr-old Toyota with 100K miles, I guess

    you're not risking too much.

Maybe you can have him put up a bond - i.e. refundable

deposit roughly equal to the value of the car.

Maybe you can find someone and the two of you

go together, sharing the cost and the driving.

It's not unreasonable to do 500 miles in one day -

about 8 hrs x 60 mph, including stops, especially

with multiple drivers.  That would even be possible

    solo.
