ISPS Women’s Australian Open 2013 venue announced
The course for the ISPS Women’s Australian Open 2013 has been announced and the whole Australian golf community is eagerly waiting for the event.
The course, Royal Canberra Golf Club, is one of the top golf courses in Australia. It is the flagship course for the Australian golf and has been the site of several national and international events.
The 2013 ISPS Women’s Australian Open will be a special event for both, the Australian golf community and LPGA. It has been designated as the official kickoff tournament of the 2013 LPGA Global Tour.
The tournament will prove to be a real challenge for the international players who are not accustomed to playing in Australia. The course is also designed differently and might offer some difficulties to the players.
The course is 6108 m, a bit longer than the golf courses in Europe and America. However, many players will actually be glad about the additional distance. They can now hit the ball further without worrying about traps and bunkers that much.
The tournament is also a landmark in the history of Australian Golf. For some time, the golf body of Australia, Golf Australia and the Women’s Australian Open have been trying to enter an agreement with LPGA.
ISPS Women’s Australian Open 2013 is the result of these negotiations and will now be featured as an important tournament on the LPGA calendar.
Tournament Director Trevor Herden, while commenting on the golf course and the tournament said, “This course set up for the women is slightly longer than those courses used over recent years on the Sandbelt and approximately 200 metres longer than the annual
Ladies Classic”.
He further added that that the course is beautifully designed and will please most players. He added, “The undulating fairways will benefit the players in most cases, Royal Canberra has a number of reasonably small greens, many of which are protected by
bunkers, forcing players to be very precise with club selection”.
The date and schedule of the tournament is under discussion and will be released shortly. The players are already excited about playing in Australia at the start of next year’s Global Tour.
