I heard a report on BBC that major ISPs will be sending out letters to those that download music illegally. What happens if you get caught? Does limewire and frostwire count as illegal downloading? Also how can you avoid getting caught? Thanks..

  1. I have been using some wireless internet for awhile...and the other day I got a message from the ISP saying that I have been DLing pirated software and that I should stop...that was basically it..hit refresh and it was gone...I then changed my mac address and refreshed my ip since everyone loves dhcp...........ANywho I was pretty amazed that they can do that...and.....THE WORLD IS GOING TO END!

  2. If you get caught by your ISP downloading illegal music/movies/applications e.t.c. then you will receive a letter in the post informing you that they know what you are doing and explaining the consequences of them catching you again.

After 3 letters it is likely they may close your account.

Limewire and Frostwire count as downloading and are easily observable as the data transfered is not encrypted.

You can reduce the risk of getting caught by using Bittorrent for downloading your data and enabling the encryption protocol in the Bittorrent client.

If you are not familiar with Bittorrent clients, feel free to view the wiki article on it at:

    Enjoy.
