ITM Cup 2011: Round Nine Fixtures and Results – Rugby news
The ninth and longest round of ITM Cup 2011 was conducted from August 9 to August 14. Collectively 10 matches were played during the round nine, which started off a high scoring encounter seen between Taranaki and Bay of Plenty.
Taranaki started off the ninth round of ITM Cup with a hard fought victory as they managed to cruise the Bay of Plenty side by 39-33.
The opening match of the ninth round of ITM Cup became a memorable encounter as Beauden Barrett produced a record making performance for Taranaki. He kicked nine plenty kicks and conversion shot for his side to clinch an important victory in the tournament.
Brett contributed 29 individual points in his team’s victory and to bypass the previous domestic record of Tom Marshall, who set it against Bay of Plenty for Tasman back in 2010.
Bay of Plenty contested the Naki’s well in the match but fall just behind them in the end. They scored four tries in the game with the help of Lelia Masaga who crossed the white wash line on Naki’s on two times and Sam Cane and Lance MacDonald elevated their
team with one each tries.
The second clash of round nine was held between Waikato and Canterbury on August 10. Waikato defeated the Canterbury side by 27-13 in Christchurch and secured a bonus point with the help of four tries in the match. Stephen Donald and Toby Smith played exceptionally
well for Waikato.
The next match of ITM Cup was a real thriller for Wellington which tamed the Northlanders quite comfortably by a massive difference of 43-19 at Westpac Stadium. The Wellington side come out of two matches losing streak with a stunning input and outclassed
the Northlanders in every run of the field. Wellington scored six tries in the match and left the Northlanders l*****g their wounds.
Auckland dumped Counties Manukau by 25-22 on August 11 with a great struggle at Eden Park. Gareth Anscombe kicked six penalty kicks for his team to earn another victory in the event. Baden Kerr was also impressive with his boots for Counties Manukau. He
guided five penalty kicks in the goals of Auckland.
Taranaki booked its second win in the round nine against Tasman by 26-23 on August 12 after a close contest. Andre Taylor played well for Naki’s whereas Andrew Goodman was too good for Tasman during the encounter.
Southland, Hawkes Bay and Manawatu bagged the victories in the fixtures played on August 13. Southland nipped North Harbour by 25-23, Hawkes Bay battled past Bay of Plenty by 32-13 and Manawatu downed Wellington side 31-25.
Canterbury and Waikato also conquered their matches respectively against Northland and Otago on August 14.
