ITTF Spanish Junior & Cadet Open 2011: Results of Junior Boys and Girls – Table Tennis news
The finals of the International Table Tennis Federation Spanish Junior & Cadet Open were held at Platja d’Aro, Spain.
The Junior Boys and Girls were contested on the evening of May 8, 2011. Yuto Muramatsu from Japan- the semi-finalist of the ITTF Junior Swedish Open- moved a step ahead and won the title.
In the final hurdle, Yuto Muramatsu won against the fifth seed Indian player Soumyajit Ghosh. The match extended to six games with a final score line of 7-11, 11-8, 11-4, 8-11, 11-6 and 11-8. This was the first title for the young player of his career on
the ITTF junior circuit. For Soumyajit it was second final of his career on the junior tours and second defeat. In April 2011, he lost the finals of the Joola Austrian Junior and Cadet Open against his compatriot Harmeet Desai.
The second seeded Japanese player Maharu Yoshimura- the winner of the last Junior Open held at Platja d’Aro- could not make it to the medal rostrum. He was defeated by Soumyajit Ghosh at the quarter-final stage. The match went to full six games with the
final score line of 8-11, 11-6, 7-11, 13-11, 12-10 and 11-7. At the semi-final stage, Soumyajit Ghosh beat Do Phuong Nam from Hungary in a match that also went into six games.
Yuto Muramatsu came as surprise finalist. He won over Indian Harmeet Desai in a five-game match with final score of 11-6, 4-11, 11-4, 11-4 and 11-3. At the semi-final stage, he won over his compatriot Masaki Yoshida in a match of five games as well.
In the Junior Girls Singles, Sofia Polcanova won the title. This is the second title for the 16-year-old from Austria on the ITTF Junior Girls’ Singles Circuit after she won her first title in 2009.
Sofia won over Indian player Manika Batra in a match of five games. The winner was decided on the fifth game as the match remained levelled until the fifth game of the match. The final match score was 11-6, 7-11, 11-2, 11-8 and 11-4.
In the quarter-final rounds Sofia Polcanova defeated Li Ching Wan from Hong Kong in a match of full seven games with the score line of 7-11, 7-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-2, 11-4 and 11-5. Sofia also defeated German top seed player Anna Krieghoff in a five-game match
in the semi-final.
