I am due to start a course of ivf. The doctor informed me to call the hospital one the first day of my next cycle. My cycle is due on a weekend and the hospital is closed do i just wait till the Monday? I dont really know what happens right at the start of the treatment and any info on the matter would be very much appreciated!

  1. I am in the same situation, starting IVF, periods usually start Saturday or Sunday. I have been told it is OK to call on Monday. My Dr. lets me have a 3 day bleed before starting me on the BCPs.

No a bad idea to inform your contact person or nurse coordinator to let him/her know of your concern.

  2. You need to call your Dr and specifically ask them what to do if you start on a weekend. With IVF your monitoring of your cycle is critical that certain things be done on specific days.

  3. No you cant wait until the Monday.  When going through IVF you must be vigilant with dates, I would advise that you speak with the doctor and advise the estimated date of your cycle and explain that this is the weekend.  It may not matter too much it depends on the type of ivf treatment that you are getting and when they want you to start taking the medication to down regulate your ovaries.

  4. You must call with day 1 of your period no matter what day of the week it falls on. There is always an on call nurse that will return your call with instructions. You will have to go in on day 3 for blood work and ultrasound and will most likely start stimming them. They will monitor you every few days with blood work and ultrasound and once you get close to what they're looking for, they will have you come in every day for monitoring. I know it's scary if it's your first cycle, but it's really not complicated; your doctor and nurse will instruct you each step of the way. The actual process of retrieval and transfer is not painful at all, if you made it through the HSG, you can handle retrieval and transfer.
