IVF question?? HELP?

Ok so I had surgery last week to try to unblock tubes but they were too bad. So they removed them!

I call and made a phone consult to get IVF started!

What is next?

How long did it take u from start to finish?

I am hoping for nov or dec! With having to travel (500+ miles) I have to time this so my 15 year old does not miss too much school! I don’t have any friends or family that I trust enough to watch her for a week!

What are your experiences? Did u have to travel?

  1. Just wanted to give you some info.  I just got a BFP from my 2nd round of IVF!

IVF usually takes almost a month to complete, depending on how it goes for you. everyone is different.  I was put on the pill to control my period, was on it for about 3 weeks.

    Last pill was July 27th

went to dr the 30th, which was considered cycle day 1

I started meds on cd3 (friday) I used gonal f

continued taking those, went back to dr for check up cd7 (tues)

at that point, my follicles were doing well

on cd11 (sat) I started taking cetrotide to stop myself from ovulating, I took it for 3 days.

This is the time when you see your dr a lot.

Cd13 I had my hcg shot to trigger ovulation

We had egg retrieval cd15 (wed) found out we had 18 eggs

took wed & thurs off work, fri called embryologist to find out 9 had fertilized

went back in on cd 18 (sat) for transfer and took 3 days off.

after that is the dreaded 2ww.

I didn't have to travel far, but good news for you is that if you live far away from your clinic, a lot of the time they will have your regular obgyn do some things so you aren't traveling a lot.  Talk to your fertility dr about it.

I read that in a few books.  One I liked was The Couples Guide to InVitro Fertilization by Liza Charlesworth.

I know this is a lot (sorry!) but I just want to say, good luck!  It was one of the craziest experiences I've ever gone through, it's emotionally and physically draining, but totally worth it.  The 1st time around for us didn't take, and  that was really hard. I approached it different the 2nd time. Since I knew what to expect, I took it day by day, kept myself as unstressed as possible and just went with the flow. Also, the 1st time we told everyone, this time we didn't even tell our parents! It nice not having everyone bug me about it!

Good luck and lots of baby dust to you!!!

  2. You will need many trips to your doctors office prior to starting the treatment. During the actual IVF cycle you will need daily blood work and ultrasounds for about 12 days, egg retrieval procedure and then 3-5 days later egg transfer. Many doctors recommend bed rest after the egg transfer procedure. All together you are looking at at least 3 weeks of being away.
