  2. Why are you posting this on the American boards?

  3. Generally, you should apply for an entry clearance at the UK Mission in the country where you are normally and legally resident. This is particularly important if you are applying to come to stay in the UK for a long time, or for settlement. If you are staying only temporarily in the country where you apply, enquiries may be made to the country where you are resident which may lead to delays before a decision on your application is made.

please note :How do I apply for a work permit?

You cannot apply directly for a work permit. The employer in the UK who wants to employ you must do this. They should contact Work Permits (UK). (Contact details are under 'More advice and information' at the end of this guidance.)

The employer should send the filled-in application form at least eight weeks before the date they need you to start work.
