  1. I think a lot - what must God think when he looks down upon the world that He has made -is he disappointed?  disgusted?  all of the above?   Teachers have plans for all these scenarios - it is required in our licensing. I hope to never have to use it of course, but those children are our responsibiity and I would give my life for any one of them.

  2. this is more of a question for primary and secondary forum not preschool.

People who commit crimes like this are extremely troubled and look for easy marks. no one would suspect that incidents would happen in school so if they are not a student at the school that's where they would go, or they may have a gripe with the school or a faculty member, staff member or student there.

Most schools, not all have security stationed at the front door and you have to show ID to get in but I will tell you as a person who has worked in preschool and public elementary schools in NY and NJ, the security at those levels is flimsy. I have seen people (non-students) just walk by the security desk without being stopped.  doesn't matter if the person is known to the guards, they should be stopped.  It is ridiculous. When we get better security in place, perhaps these things won't happen as much, but when you have schools struggling with their budgets, and the government not giving them more money for security because it's all going to Iraq what do you expect!?

  3. You know I have heard a lot about that in the news lately too but what concerns me most is people going to schools and day cares and taking kids from the schools. Most of the time it is due to a teacher not paying close attention but sometimes it is a friend or family member that both the child and the school knows! That is what scares me the most, as a Head Start Teacher for 3 - 5 year olds it is my job to check Id's for anyone I do not usually see picking up the kids but if they are on my Emergency card I have to let them go with that person. I would take a bullet any day for my students, without hesitation, but I can't see a family member or friend that shows up on a card and is allowed to pick the kids up that has bad intentions! I try not to worry about the shootings because I know that I would do anything possible to keep my children as safe as I possibly could, it's the dangers from within the family that worry me MOST!

  4. Our school is in a church setting and we do have all precautions in place. The doors are locked and id's are checked. We have a plan for every emergency imaginable. The children are our main concerned and we will do what we have to in order to protect these little ones. I do think that there is a lot of hate and violence in the world that is not being taken care of. People need help before they get to the point of rage and it is up to all people to seek help for themselves and others. Basically I think we all do what we can and hope others are trying too.
