what is the percentage of words in an english dictionary that have latin or greek as thier source.

  1. Total guess:  70%.  Many words are greek or latin, but there are still a large handful of words from the old english, pict/celt connection.


  2. I would guess 50%

    Remember, Old Germanic languages are half of the English vocabulary words.  The French (romance, latin) was the other half.  Plus there are many borrowed words.  I would bet 50%

    Germanic lanuages are not latin in origin.

  3. As you can see, we'd all just be guessing. You have to go with whatever is in your textbooks/lessons. One source might say one thing and another source something else. If you don't go with what your text says, you could end up having the wrong answer.
