When I go, I go down to Goose Island.  Go out on the pier and stay there all night free-lining shrimp under the lights.  Use as little weight as possible - no weight is best if the wind is down.

Wherever you decide to go, check map quest on the aerial view to see the contours (it actually shows it on some places!

Mostly in the water.  The jetties are usually good for someone without a boat.
