Ian Assing, Garth D Abreu proceed to semi-finals of Canadian Masters Badminton Championships 2012
Men’s Doubles experts Ian Assing and Garth D Abreu ensured their presence in semi-final round of Yonex Canadian Masters Badminton Championships as they toppled Francois Beland-Eric Demeule in quarter-finals on May 9, 2012.
The top ranked duo survived a close call as they lost the first set and as the game almost slipped from their hands in the third set as well.
However, Ian Assing and Garth Abreu did not allow their rivals to snatch the honour as they registered final figures of 13-21, 21-15 and 21-18 after sweating hard for 39 minutes.
Meanwhile, the Canadian couple Francois-Eric put up great resistance against their superior challengers and registered their presence despite fading out after three exhausting sets.
They propelled their opponents in very first game of the match. They were bit cautious against top seed Ian-Garth in the start but few good rallies boosted their confidence and they never looked back.
The first half of the set ended with their dominance which continued in later part of the game as Francois-Eric bagged a crucial match point with a distinctive margin of 21-13.
Men’s Doubles partners Ian Assing and Garth Abreu, who belong to Canada and America respectively, finally got their lost rhythm back in the following game.
This time they did not blunder and successfully carried their momentum until game point situation.
In the beginning, the underrated duo of Francois-Eric created bit trouble by clinching few quick points and it seemed a competitive score but the experienced campaigners Ian-Garth put their expedition to a halt with a strong reply.
They did not give any counter attack opportunity to their competitors and wrapped the second segment of show with concluding margin of 21-15.
The third set proved best part of match as both contenders employed commendable court craft to oust their opponent.
They mesmerised the audience with their breath-taking performance in last segment of the show. They remained toe-to-toe in most part of the game but the twosome of Ian and Garth made difference by reaching at final score position of 21-18.
Now they will face another Canadian pair Trevor Rowsell-Chris White in the semi-final round of event.
