Ian Bell injured ahead of the first ODI – Cricket News Update
England’s top-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GP-Swann-c1501
while attempting a hook-shot during practice.
The 30-year-old was immediately given medical treatment to stop the bleeding but it is unlikely that Bell will participate in today’s fixture.
The right-hander got dropped from England’s limited-overs squad earlier this year for the series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Saeed-Ajmal-c87859 and company in the Tests.
However, Kevin Pietersen’s retirement from limited-over internationals has tempted selectors to bring back the experienced cricketer, who has the ability to somewhat make up for KP's absence.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026, the 50-overs skipper, admitted that Bell is in a lot of pain and it is unlikely that he will play the first ODI. However, the final call will be made before the toss, after reassessing the batsman’s health.
“It is a concern because he didn't look in a good way when he walked off. There was quite a lot of blood and he has had stitches. We'll announce the team at the toss like we normally do," Cook said.
If Bell is not able to recover before the match, it will be extremely demoralizing for him as the batsman is making a comeback in the ODI team.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 batsman has been a prolific run-scorer for the Poms in the longer version of the sport and has played a massive role in making his country the number one ranked Test team of the world. The right-hander already has
more than eight thousand international runs under his belt but is yet to prove his class in the shorter formats of the game.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 captain believes that Bell has the talent to perform well in any format and wishes that the stylish batsman turns out to be a long-term solution for England in the 50-over version.
The left-handed opener added, "Clearly we need people at the top of the order with good techniques and with myself and hopefully Belly at the top we can do that. It's about winning games of cricket and we've won the last five series
at home. We're a tough team to beat in our conditions."
