Ian Bell looking forward to fill Kevin Pietersen’s spot – Cricket News Update
Promising England batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597, is looking forward to fill the void created by veteran batsman Kevin Pietersen’s untimely retirement from the one day format of international cricket.
Speaking to media reporters on Monday, the 30-year-old http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 top order batsman said that he has “unfinished business” in the One Day International (ODI) format of the game, adding that he will try his level best not to let KP’s
absence felt in the ODI team.
"It was a real shock when I heard the news about Kev. He is his own man and makes his own decisions,” said Bell commenting on Kevin Pietersen’s decision to bid farewell to the ODI and T20 format of the game, just a couple of months before
the World T20 Championship, where England will be defending the title.
It was not only Ian Bell, but cricket followers around the world who were shocked by KP's sudden decision. The ODI captain of England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AN-Cook-c1026 was equally amazed by the timing of KP’s decision. However, he hoped the young players
in the team, like Jonny Bairstow, will now work hard to grab the position and cement their place in the national one-day squad.
Bell, who has not played one-day cricket for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 since October last year, was eager to add his name to the list of players competing to grab the position left vacant by KP’s retirement.
"Captain Alastair Cook made some comments about it giving an opportunity for someone else, and I certainly want to get myself back into the England team in all forms of the game,” said the right-handed batsman.
Bell, who has so far played 108 One day Internationals for England, agreed that with a number of players vying for the vacant position, it would be quite tough for him to regain the selectors’ confidence.
"I'll be working hard to take the opportunity should it arise. There are younger players coming through but I hope I still have a shout,” said the top-order batsman who made two half centuries in the first Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 at Lord’s
last month.
"I have unfinished business in ODIs. In one-day cricket I'd like to nail down a position in the top three," he added further.
