Ian Bell rates his century at Trent Bridge as one of his best knocks – Cricket news
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IR-Bell-c1597, the England batsman, is over the moon with his performance in the first Test of the five-match series against Australia at Trent Bridge and feels that the century in the second innings is his best ever knock in an Ashes encounter.
After a stunning batting performance by Ashton Agar and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185, England conceded a first-innings lead of 65 runs to the Baggy Greens.
Bell came in to bat in the second innings with his team in trouble at 121 runs for the loss of three wickets. The right-hander batted out of his skin and scored 109 runs off 267 balls in which he struck 15 boundaries.
The century turned out to be the difference between the two teams as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 won the first Test by a narrow margin of 14 runs.
The right-hander expressed after the match that it was his best innings against the arch-rivals. Bell is extremely satisfied with his showing as the pitch was not very easy to bat on.
“Certainly it's my best Ashes innings. It was nice to put an innings together when the team needed it most. The wicket was pretty slow, obviously reverse swing has played a massive part in this game so to use my skills to get us a decent lead on this pitch
is very satisfying,” said Bell.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 is also impressed by Bell’s ton and said that the middle-order batsman showed the strength of his character under trying circumstances.
“I've seen him play some really good innings so I'm not going to say that's his best,” http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 expressed. “But to make a hundred, with the ball reverse swinging, with little bit of spin and it being a hard grind to bat for that amount of time, was very good.”
The 31-year-old cricketer has already played 89 Tests for the Poms, having scored more than six thousand runs with a batting average in excess of 45 runs per innings. Bell has so far scored 18 hundreds and 35 half-centuries in the five-day format of the
sport.
The second Test is going to be played at the Lord’s from July 18.
