Ian Bishop gives his take on West Indies Test performance – Cricket News Update
Former West Indies fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750, feeling that the batting remains a problem for the Caribbean outfit.
The tourists were dealt a 2-0 defeat in the three-Test match series, where the batting line up collapsed in the first and third five-day games, which handed their opponents the advantage.
The opening Test match saw the Windies crumble on 180 in their second innings, despite earning a deserved first innings lead. Also there faith in the final game remained in the balance when they were bundled out on 134 after making a whopping 590 in the
first outing.
The lack of consistency is a concern for Bishop; however, he was happy with how the bowlers held their nerves and have grown in stature through the course of the series. Especially the third Test match was where they shouldered the responsibility ably to
earn a hard fought draw after scores were level.
“Three times in this series the batting collapsed. So, that has been an ongoing problem. They will be happy with the performance of the bowlers and happier, perhaps, not to lose the Test match. But they have to cope with the inexperience in the batting,”
said http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishop-c48135.
The team under the leadership of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJG-Sammy-c1382 looks capable of toppling the best when on song on any given day. However, doing on consistent basis is what is required if they want to be recognized as a top 5 cricketing nation – an ambition outlined by their
skipper.
Commenting on the performances of their captain, Bishop feels that Sammy needs to be a little more responsible when it comes to his batting, however, was happy to see him bowl and get important scalps throughout the Test series.
“He's a learning captain, a team man,” added Bishop. “But he has to improve his batting. His bowling, I think, has been above expectations in my view. He's a good fielder...”
As the focus now shifts to the limited overs format, the Windies will hope to make a swift transition and get a win before returning home.
