Former West Indian fast bowler, Ian Bishop, is extremely disappointed with the downfall of Caribbean cricket and said that youngsters in West Indies are not prepared to work hard.
West Indies just finished a series against India and lost both the Test series as well as the limited overs competition. Before http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 also defeated West Indies in the One Day International series, whereas the Test series was tied with one Test each.
Since the last 15 years, West Indian cricket has rarely tasted success and Bishop feels that one of the major reasons behind the decline of Caribbean cricket is the fact that West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) has never felt the need to develop a captain.
He also criticized the current West Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Julius-Garvey-Sammy-c52468, and feels that there are lots of question marks on the capability of the all-rounder as an International cricketer.
Bishop said, “Leadership is vital. Someone like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gordon-James-Muchall-c60376 respect from the players. The fact that we now have a captain (Darren Sammy) who would not have found a place in a lot of the West Indian teams is an indictment of West Indies cricket.”

He feels that the youngsters in the Caribbean are not inclined towards working hard and that is why they prefer playing Basketball in a cooler weather, rather than cricket under the hot sun.
“The decline in West Indian cricket is also a reflection in the decay of values in general in the Caribbean, in all http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Matthew-Jonathan-Walker-c75220 of life. People are running after the dollar. Cricket demands hard work and commitment. Now, a lot of younger men are happier playing basketball under the lights at night,” the former fast bowler added.
