Ian Burns, Stuart Carrington and Chen Zhe cruise into third round of Q School Event 1: Snooker News
The second-round matches started in the second session of the third day of Qualifying School (Q School) and the favourites surged into the third round of the Event 1. Ian Burns, Stuart Carrington and Chen Zhe won their respective matches of round-two
in the final session to move into the next stage.
Burns and Zhe clinched their matches with relative ease at 4-2 against Mitchell Mann and Michael Wasley respectively, while Carrington had a tough encounter before he won his match with 4-3 against Charlie Walters.
A terrific break of 60 from Walters could not win him the first frame when Carrington fired a decent break of 32 to take the frame with 71-60. The first frame victory gave Carrington a strong position in the match and boosted his confidence, as he
extended his lead to 2-0 after taking the second frame by 91-24 with a rattling clearance of 48.
Walters, on the other hand, did not let go easily as he bounced back from nowhere to capitalise and a stunning 68 break brought him one frame up at 2-1 when he grabbed his first frame with 8-88. With back-to-back frame wins at 46-58 and 8-79, Walters
moved within one frame lead over Carrington by 2-3 after the end of fifth frame.
Walters’ come back into the game and surprised the Englishman, Carrington, but he held his nerves somehow and focused back on his cue. Walters led with 6-22 in the sixth frame when a miss from him brought Carrington on the table who swept it with a
rattling knock of 63 and took the frame by 69-22 to pull level at 3-3 and pushed the game into the decider frame.
The last frame was a see-saw affair as both players tried to nudge each other down but Carrington won the battle in the end with a classy display of his snooker techniques. The frame scores of the match were 71-60 (Carrington 32, Walters 60), 91-24
(Carrington 48), 8-88 (Walters 68), 46-58, 8-79 (Walters 47, 32), 69-22 (Carrington 63), 71-62 (Walters 40).
Ad interim, Ian Burns took on Mitchell Mann in the second round and defeated him with an easy score line of 4-2 in the end. Burns took 1-0 quick lead after he smashed a 49 clearance to win the frame by 77-3 followed by Mann’s stunning 43 break to pull
level at 1-1.
At 2-2, Burns pocketed a sensational century break of 122 followed by a decent small 34 clearance to grab back-to-back frames and tumbled Mann 4-2 down to move into the next round.
Chen Zhe gave the same medicine to Michael Wasley and booked a spot in the third round of the Q School at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield. The match was 2-2 level after four frames when Zhe struck back and grabbed two consecutive frames at 70-31
and 71-8 to take the victory by 4-2.
