Ian Burns ousts Antony Parsons and Stuart Carrington thrashes Nick Jennings - Snooker Q School Event 3
Englishmen, Ian Burns and Stuart Carrington registered their first-round victories over compatriots, Antony Parsons and Nick Jennings on the first day of World Snooker Qualifying School
(Q School), at the World Snooker Academy, Sheffield.
The last session of the day featured a couple of close encounters along with some white-washes.
Burns had a nail-biting encounter with Parsons, as the pair struggled hard during the match to grab the victory, while Carrington faced no resistance at all from the Portsmouth potter,
Jennings. With defeats in the first round, Parsons and Jennings have lost their chances to go on pro tour in the upcoming season.
Ian Burns 4-3 Antony Parsons
Burns had his chances to clinch the tour card in the first event, as he moved to the fourth round beating Jamie Clarke, Mitchell Mann, and David Gray but lost to Chen Zhe. In the second
event of the Q School 2011, he played brilliantly again, beating James McBain and Chris Norbury in the first two rounds but could not move further, as Lee Walker ousted him in round three.
The third event started brilliantly for 26-year-old Burns, as he took victory at 4-3 in his first match after facing a strong resistance from Parsons. The Preston-born Burns took back-to-back
frame wins to get a 2-0 lead, but Parsons made it 2-2 after he took the next two frames with a stunning 84 clearance in the third.
At a 3-2 score line, Parsons made a strong comeback and won the sixth frame to drag the match into a decider frame. The final frame was a close fight but Burns held his nerves to triumph
in the frame by 61-55. The overall score line of the match was 65-25, 62-34, 0-84 (84), 2-96, 63-30, 4-73, 61-55.
Stuart Carrington 4-0 Nick Jennings
Carrington moved to the third round of both previous events but could not make his mark at the end, as he lost to Chen Zhe in the first tournament and to Simon Bedford in the second event.
He started his event three run with an astounding white-wash victory over 20-year-old Jennings and finished the youngster’s pro tour hopes, with a terrific score of 4-0 score. The English
potter pocketed cracking knocks of 65, 52 and 70, to nudge the Portsmouth’s Jennings four frames down.
The frame scores of the match were 89-5 (Carrington 65), 77-50 (Carrington 52), 45-8, 70-14 (Carrington 70). Carrington will meet Justin Astley in the second round of the Q School 2011
Event three at the World Snooker Academy.
