Ian Chappell asks Ricky Ponting not to share captaincy tricks with Michael Clarke – Cricket news
Former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 and should not indulge in his decision-making process as a captain of the side.
“I don’t think Ponting should be sharing his captaincy tricks with Michael Clarke, it’s pointless having the captain resign if he’s advising the terms to the new captain,” said Chappell.
Reminding Ponting the commitment he made when he quit captaincy, Chappell said that he has completed his term and now it is time for the young man to run the show.
“Ponting needs to leave Clarke alone to run the team. Ponting has already made it clear he'll be available to give advice and nothing more, and there's every reason to believe he'll stick to his word,” the former Aussie captain added.
Clarke was recently appointed as Australia’s 43rd Test captain, replacing Ricky Ponting who stepped down after the Kangaroos disastrous ICC World Cup 2011 campaign.
The newly appointed skipper has already regarded Ponting’s presence in the team as a blessing for him and says he can benefit from his leadership experience.
Clarke has served Australia in 198 One Day Internationals and 69 Test matches. Following the recent failure of his team, he took over the captaincy role at a difficult time. The atrocious 2010-11 Ashes series defeat, followed by defeats in two consecutive World Cup matches had dented the team’s confidence significantly.
However, the right-handed batsman made a fantastic start to his official captaincy role, as he led the Aussies to a crushing 3-0 victory over http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 in the recently concluded ODI series.
Extremely happy over a clean sweep win in his first outing as Australia’s full time captain, Clarke has admitted that it would take players some time to adjust to his approach of captaincy, despite filling in for Ponting a number of times in the last few years.
Chappell further said that since Clarke has taken over the command of the Australian cricket team, he should understand that all the wins and losses go under his name, and it is his responsibility to put Aussie cricket back on track.
Chappell believed that Clarke was the perfect choice to fill Ponting’s shoes but it will depend on how he progresses as a captain in the future.
“I think Michael Clarke was the right bloke to take over, he’s made a good start (winning the series in Bangladesh) but it’s not how you start it’s how you progress,” Chappell explained.
Chappell further hoped that pressure games will shape Clarke as a wonderful captain in the coming days provided he learns from his mistakes.
