Ian Chappell blames MS Dhoni for India's Boxing Day Test defeat - Cricket News Update
Former Australia skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ian-Michael-Chappell-c63914 has blamed Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s conservative approach for India’s 122-run crush-down in the opening Test of the four-match series at Melbourne last week.
The 68-year-old former top order batsman of Australia said on Sunday that it was Dhoni’s defensive approach on the final day of the Melbourne Test that helped Australian tailenders add crucial runs to the scorecard, taking the game away from the tourists.
"http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MS-Dhoni-c2028 set the tone for India's slide to oblivion on the final day at the MCG,” Chappell wrote in his column for a leading Australian daily. “He was extremely conservative when the situation cried out for him to attack in order to claim the final two
wickets cheaply," he added further.
The former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gregory-Stephen-Chappell-c60820 said that the Indian skipper himself pressed down his side’s inability to dismiss Australian tailenders. He urged Dhoni to revisit his captaincy tactics and find a solution
to the problems before his team takes the field against Australian in Sydney from Tuesday, January 3, 2012.
Though the former Australian was pretty hopeful of Australia’s chances in the Sydney Test and the remaining two five-dayers, he urged http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Clarke-c1978 and his men to be cautious about the iconic Indian batsman, Sachin Tendulkar, who has proven his skills at
the SCG and looked in great form during his half-century stay at the crease during Melbourne Test.
"The player the Australians haven't yet found an answer for is http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746
batsman.
He also urged Australian bowlers to find a solution to stop Virender Sehwag’s blitz and get him out cheaply.
"If Australia can shut down both Sehwag and Tendulkar, then http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013, which ended in a 4-0 series thrashing," he said.
Chappell praised http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Clarke-c51120 for handling the penetrative pace attack in an excellent way. However, he suggested the Aussie skipper to work on his defensive technique.
