Ian Evans set to get married – Rugby News Update
Ian Evans, the 27-year-old Ospreys and Wales' lock is set to get married this summer, and will duly miss the first test against Australia, which starts on June 9.
Wales is set to tour Australia for a three-match test series, with the other two test-matches being played on June, 16 at Melbourne and the final match taking place at Sydney on June, 23. Evans will delay his honeymoon to join up with the team.
He said, "If everything does go well for the team in the first Test, and I hope it does, then I can fully understand the situation.”
"I will have to take it on the chin," he added.
Evans. who started his career with Pontypridd before moving to Ospreys in 2005, revealed that he had set the dates a year ago and at the time of deciding the dates he was not in contention for a Wales call-up, as he was nursing an injury.
He said, "A lot of things have changed from January onwards, really, which have been really positive in my rugby career.” And he further added, "It has all been a bit of a whirlwind. If you had said to me at the start of this season how it would end, I would have laughed at you."
Evans made his Wales debut against Argentina at Puerto Madryn, on June 11, 2006, prior to winning the U-21 Six Nations Grand Slam with his country in 2005. He scored a try on his debut. After winning further caps against Australia, Canada and New Zealand in November 2006, he was sidelined due to an injury during the 2006-07 campaign.
He made the cut for the 2007 Rugby World Cup and played at the 2008 Six Nations, before going into international wilderness due to repeated injuries. He was recalled against Australia in 2011 for his first test in three years.
Evans is getting another chance to establish himself for his national team but he will not participate due to his marriage.
Evans has played 22 matches for Wales so far, starting 17 of those and coming on a substitute a further 5 times.
