Ian Holloway demands video technology in football
Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has reiterated his claims that video technology should have been introduced into football a long time ago.
Holloway feels that his team have been hard done by with a variety of decisions over recent weeks that could have been easily corrected if the fourth official was allowed to watch television replays during
games.
"It shouldn't be down to luck.
If you (the media) can see it with the information you give us to judge it, then why can't the fourth official use that.
It's a no-brainer for me, it's too simple for words," he said.
Video technology in football can cover a variety of areas, which are very unclear at the moment. However, there are always going to be old romantics that believe the human
element should remain in terms of football officiating.
Number of positives
Video technology would have a number of positives and it can be used in a number of different ways. Goal line technology, a small camera zoomed in along the goal line,
would settle any debate over whether a ball had crossed the goal line.
A camera constantly monitoring the back line of each time would make offside decisions much easier to correct. This would stop so many goals from being allowed incorrectly.
The main problem is that there is a core group of people in football who are anti-technology. These people feel that the authority and integrity of a referee in football
should never be questioned. This is the group that has to be won over.
"We've got the technology, let's use it at the highest level, it's already there.
There'd be no more mistakes, and that's what we all want. Other sports do it so why can't we?" he added.
Betting advice
The use of technology in football should make betting much easier because there will be less confused areas within a game and simple decisions will appear in black and
white. This would stop current questions over the legitimacy of bets e.g. the first goalscorer when the goal is clearly offside.
