Ian Holloway praises Everton's Seamus Coleman
Blackpool boss Ian Holloway has praised Everton youngster Seamus Coleman, who returns to Bloomfield Road for the first time since playing for the Tangerines last season during his loan
spell. Coleman helped the club into the Premier League via the play-offs, and Holloway claims the Irishman thanked him for helping him develop and force his way into David Moyes’s first team plans this year. However, Holloway insists the thanks should be the
other way around.
Holloway explained: “He has thanked me for helping him in his loan spell at Blackpool last season, but it is me who should be thanking him because I don’t think he will ever fully realise
how much he helped us. I had a situation where one of my players got injured and I needed some cover. I chose Seamus at Everton and we did a loan deal. It was one of the best things I did because he came in and added a new impetus and helped us go all the
way to Wembley in the play-offs and win promotion.”
The 22-year-old has impressed with the Toffees this season, reverting to right midfield rather than the right full-back slot he occupied with the Tangerines during his short spell there.
And Holloway insists he tried to re-sign the player in the summer – again on loan – but was denied the deal as Moyes claimed Coleman was a part of his first team plans for the coming season.
The former Plymouth boss stated: “I tried to get him back on loan this season but David Moyes said ‘no’ because Seamus would get in his first team. Typical Moyesey, he is a man of his
word and put Seamus in. I saw Seamus create Tim Cahill’s goal in the Merseyside derby and I was really pleased for the lad.”
Despite missing out the player, Blackpool have made an impressive start to the season, and they’ll be looking o carry that on against Everton on Saturday.
