Ian Humphreys excited ahead of weekend encounter against Leicester Tigers – Rugby News
Belfast based, Irish professional Rugby Union outfit, Ulster Rugby’s talented fly half Ian Humphreys has expressed his excitement about facing his former team-mates when Ulster take on Leicester
Tigers in their upcoming 2011/12 Heineken Cup encounter. He made these comments while talking to the officials of the European Rugby Championship’s website on Wednesday, November 16.
Ulster and Leicester are placed in Pool 4 of the European Premier Cup. Both teams have won their opening matches of the 2011/12 season from last week. Leicester Tigers and Ulster are placed
at 1st and 2nd place respectively. Both have the same number of points after playing their single game of the competition.
Leicester Tigers will host Ulster on Saturday, November 19 at Welford Road, Leicester.
The 29-year-old Humphreys remained with Leicester Tigers from 2005 to 2008. In fact he made his professional senior Rugby Union club debut with Tigers where he made 27 appearances and scored
172 points.
Commenting on the prospects of playing against his former team-mates, Humphreys replied that he played for Tigers long time ago and a lot has changed over the period of time. He added that
most of his colleagues at that time have left Tigers.
Humphreys further added, “It is not something that's in the back of mind and I am just enjoying playing here. I had a great time at Leicester but I just want to get over there and get the win.”
Belfast born Humphreys made his Heineken Cup debut for Tigers in 2007/08 season. He made played three games in that season before joining Ulster at the start of the 2008/09 season. He expressed
his confidence that Ulster has the ability to defeat Leicester Tigers at their home ground.
Humphreys said, “We'll be travelling to Welford Road full of confidence and thinking that we can win that game. Because we feel that, even when we go away from home, we've got the quality to
beat teams.”
Humphreys further added that the team is in good form after their weekend victory over Clermont Auvergne.
