Ian Kennedy’s pitching helps Arizona Diamondbacks defeat Milwaukee Brewers 4-0 – MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter, Ian Kennedy was remarkable with the ball as he presented just four hits in his seven inning pitches and gave the Diamondbacks a 4-0 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers at Chase Field, Arizona on July 21.
During the first three innings of the game, the batters got out without taking any run. Nyjer Morgan singled off centre-field but Corey Hart was struck-out swinging, Ryan Braun flied out to left-field and Prince Fielder also struck-out swinging at the top
of the first inning. Similarly, the Diamondbacks’ batters also failed to score runs in the second inning as Miguel Montero singled to left-field but Brandon Allen struck-out swinging.
The Diamondbacks scored two collective runs during the fourth inning to get a 2-0 lead. Justin Upton hit a solo homer (439 feet) towards centre-field and Montero homered (397 feet) to left-field to lift the potential of the Diamondbacks.
The pitchers were on top from the fifth to seventh inning. Kennedy pitched the ball with an ERA of 3.22 and did not give away any run. He permitted two walks and struck-out five batters on his 114 pitches. In the seventh inning, Yuniesky Betancourt was grounded
out to short-stop, Jonathan Lucroy flied out to right-field and Zack Greinke flied out to left-field.
Speaking to a reporter, Kennedy said, “That was the only time tonight where I felt like I didn't have command of a couple of pitches, but I also wasn't going to give them anything to barrel.”
The Brewers’ manager, Ron Roenicke was frustrated with the performance of his team and said, “You get disappointed when you think you are playing pretty good and you come out and get shut out. I am glad we won some games on the trip but when you think about
this game, it's hard to be happy about what happened the last few days.”
At the bottom of the eighth inning, the Diamondbacks extended their lead 4-0 by blasting two runs. Kelly Johnson hit a two-run homer (369 feet) towards left-field and Gerardo Parra scored a single run. At the top of the ninth inning, the Brewers were score-less
as Betancourt singled off centre-field but Rickie Weeks struck-out swinging, Lucroy also struck-out swinging and Casey McGehee grounded out to short-stop position.
The Diamondbacks’ offence has managed to tie the four-game series 2-2 played at Chase Field.
