Ian Kennedy’s pitching helps Arizona Diamondbacks rout San Diego Padres 6-1 - MLB Update
Arizona Diamondbacks’ starter, Ian Kennedy had a tremendous day with the ball as he permitted just one earned run and six hits with an ERA of 3.03 in the Diamondbacks’ 6-1 win against the San Diego Padres at Chase Field, Arizona on August 28.
The batters looked ineffective in the first inning and were unable to yield runs. Jesus Guzman doubled to deep centre-field while Jason Bartlett and Kyle Blanks both popped out to short-stop position without taking any run. Similarly, Ryan Roberts walked
and Justin Upton singled off left-field but at right-field Aaron Hill flied out and Chris Young struck-out.
In the second inning, both sides scored one run each to move the score-board 1-1. Orlando Hudson hit a solo homer (388 feet) towards right-field to add up the first run for Padres. On the other side, Collin Cowgill struck a one-run homer (383 feet) to right-field
and levelled the game. Diamondbacks’ batters scored two runs at the bottom of third inning to advance their lead 3-1.
Hill struck a two-run homer (402 feet) to left-field and Roberts contributed a single run for Diamondbacks to give them a convincing lead during third inning. The pitchers threw beautifully from fourth to seventh inning of the game and outclassed the batters
through their curveballs.
Kennedy pitched seven innings and struck-out seven batters on his 107 pitches. He allowed only one run and one homer in his respective pitched innings. Diamondbacks’ Manager, Kirk Gibson commented on Kennedy and said, “Everybody speculated when I named him
Opening Day starter and he's lived up to it. He's been huge.”
At the bottom of sixth inning, Cowgill reached towards pitcher on an infield single while at right-field John McDonald flied out and at centre-field Miguel Montero flied out without adding even a single run. In the seventh inning, Padres missed some runs
when Andy Parrino singled off right-field but at left-field, Will Venable lined out.
Diamondbacks advanced their lead 6-1 at the bottom of eighth inning by exploding three runs. Paul Goldschmidt scored a single run when Cowgill doubled to deep right-field. Roberts walked and Montero posted the second run for Diamondbacks. The third run was
taken by Cowgill when Hill moved to short-stop position on an infield single and Lyle Overbay was thrown out at home plate.
As a result, Diamondbacks swept the Padres 3-0 in the three-game series played at Chase Field.
