Ian Kinsler’s home-runs help Texas Rangers defeat Houston Astros 3-2 – MLB Update
The Texas Rangers comprehensively defeated the Houston Astros 3-2 on Wednesday, June 29 at the Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas.
The Rangers stamped their authority very early in the match, scoring three runs in the first three innings, with two of them coming in the very first innings. The pitchers supported their hitters and did not let the Houston batters score until the seventh
innings when the Astros tried staging a comeback in the game. This was the only time the Astros managed to score in the game.
It was Ian Kinsler from the Rangers who did most of the talking at Minute Maid Park. The second baseman from the Texas side belted two home-runs in what was a resolute display of hitting skills. Starting the game with 99 career home-runs, Kinsler smashed
one 361 feet into the crowd to complete his 100 home-runs at the top of the first inning. With intentions clear to be offensive from the onset, the Rangers’ bull-pen jumped into joy as they saw Kinsler punch one throw for a massive 398-feet home-run. Andres
Blanco was the other scorer from the Rangers, adding one-run in the first innings.
The Texas Rangers were outstanding with their pitching. Colby Lewis’s mesmerising spell was the pick of the night. His first six innings did not yield any run for the Astros. He, however, leaked two runs in the seventh innings owing to Carlos Lee’s sixth
home-run of the season. Matt Downs did not let the scoring stop and added one more immediately to finally give the home crowd something to cheer about.
This late assault by the Astros was well controlled by the Texas relief pitchers as they came in to take over from their tired starter. Darren Oliver, Mark Lowe and Neftali Feliz were near perfect for the Rangers. Lewis however managed a win in this game
for his otherwise tremendous pitching. His win-loss record is now 7-7 for the season.
Brett Myers did not get lucky with his precise pitching. Myers gave away just one more run than Lewis in a performance that was otherwise equally matched in almost all perspectives. Myers ended up losing the game, his seventh for the season with just three
wins in the bag.
After the game, the Houston manager Brad Mills said that the Astros have not lived up to their expectations playing at home.
He said, “Home is the place where you want to get yourself right. Right now, we are going through a tough time. There's no doubt about it."
This loss now puts the Astros two games behind the Rangers in the three-game series at home. Having virtually lost the series, the Astros will be upbeat to restore their lost pride in the dead rubber.
