Ian McCall takes on Demetrious Johnson in non-title bout on UFC on FX 3 – UFC news
Ian McCall, the world number one mixed martial art flyweight, is ready to headline UFC on FX 3 pay-per-view and will take on Demetrious Johnson, the world number three flyweight, in a five-round bout to decide as to who will take on Joseph Benavidez in the
finals of the UFC flyweight tourney.
The duo will meet at the BankAtlantic Center situated in Fort Lauderdale, Sunrise, Florida, United States and the main card of the pay-per-view will be televised live on Friday June 8, 2012. The event will be co-headlined by the three-round non-title clash
between Erick Silva and Charlie Brenneman.
Ian recently shared his thoughts about the upcoming bout and the fact that he loves to act as an underdog as it gives him more motivation and helps him prepare extremely well for any bout.
McCall, 27, is a surging young American mixed martial artist who has been in a total 14 bouts. The Californian lad has nailed 11 opponents, four by knockout, three by submission, and another four by either split or unanimous decision.
Ian will take on Demetrius for the second time. Unfortunately, in their first clash the improper scoring controversy tarnished the bout as a result of which a draw decision was issued. Later on it was proved that Ian was the clear winner as he had scored
more points.
In his previous bout, even then Ian was considered as an underdog and had substantial odds against him but McCall rose at the occasion and gave Demetrious a memorable beating of his life.
Ian recently vowed to do the same and emerge out of the octagon as a winner. McCall stated, “No one expects me to win,” he said. “But I'm going to. Sorry. I'm the underdog, betting-wise, but that's cool because my friends can make money that are degenerate
gamblers. Everyone thinks Benavidez is going to beat my a*s (if I beat Johnson), but he's not. So I'm excited to prove people wrong.”
Also known as ‘Uncle Creepy’, Ian, as far as the stats are concerned, is slightly overshadowed by Johnson’s experience. Demetrius, 25, has been in a total 17 mixed martial art bouts and emerged victorious in 14.
The Washington lad has nailed three of his opponents by knockout, six by submission and five by decision. The bout will be a tough one as both men will strive hard to grab the number one spot in order to take on Joseph for the UFC flyweight title.
Ian is entering in his second UFC bout and he needs to pick up a clear victory so as to start off his career in UFC in an intimidating manner whereas Johnson has been in the division for long and to some people deserves the right to compete for the title.
