Ian McCulloch disapproves addition of new events in snooker calendar – Snooker News
After a successful finish of the 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, England’s Ian McCulloch announced his retirement from the World Snooker professional circuit.
The Englishman was up against the young Belgian potter, Luca Brecel in the fourth round of the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifiers where he lost to him by the score line of 10-2.
McCulloch had a tremendous snooker career reaching the World Number 11 spot in his prime. However, he tumbled down in the standings during his campaign in the 2011-12 Snooker Season and had to play the qualifiers of major ranking snooker events. Despite
the fact that he was struggling with his neck and shoulder injuries, the English potter continued his good form the whole season and gave his best.
During the final proceedings of the 2012 World Snooker Championship, World Snooker Chairman Barry Hearn announced the addition of some more snooker events in the yearly calendar which made some major players unhappy because they wanted some time to spend
with their families and friends.
McCulloch also did not like this addition saying that at his age it is important to give time to your family rather than flying around the world for participating in snooker events all year.
While speaking to the local media about his thoughts on the addition of new events, McCulloch said, “It was after the World Championship in April that I retired. There have been a lot of changes in snooker since Barry Hearn took over, with a lot more tournaments
introduced. If you are a 20-year-old lad with no family ties, it is a cracking time to be playing professional snooker.”
He added, “But I’m nearly 41, have a wife and two children, and I’m at a stage where I want to see more of them rather than flying off here, there and everywhere.”
Now the English potter is getting proper treatment of his injuries and staying home for a while. He might come back to the game some other way but so far he has no plans to return. The fans will definitely miss McCulloch as he is a tremendously talented
player with enormous skills.
