Ian McCulloch satisfied with his career in snooker – Snooker News
After the finish of the 2012 World Snooker Championship qualifying sessions, England’s Ian McCulloch announced his retirement because of his injuries and increased number of snooker tournaments in the new season calendar. McCulloch wants to be with his family
and that is why he decided to retire from World Snooker.
McCulloch was in the Top 16 during his prime in the 2004 when he showed great performance in the major ranking snooker tournaments. However, in the next season he did tumbled down in the standings and finished the season at World Number 16 rank. After that
he suffered from neck and shoulder injuries which cost him in his recent years of the game.
He was unable to play according to the standards after he suffered from those injuries. In the previous snooker season, he failed to improve his rankings and slipped down to number 68 spot where he was no longer one of the leading potters of the line-up.
However, he still feels satisfied with what he has achieved so far in his career of snooker.
While speaking to the local media, McCulloch said, “Snooker has treated me well. I made a good career out of it. I’ve so many highlights from it for a variety of reasons. My best moment in the game was probably reaching the semi-final of the World Championship
in 2005. Maybe I should have won the tournament that year because I was playing well enough to win it.”
He added, “In the build-up I was flying and couldn’t have prepared better. Physically I felt good, I was out doing miles on the bike every week to keep fit. Then I was practising for six or seven hours a day. Looking back, I’d say the period between 2000
and 2007 I was at my best.”
He further spoke that he did okay during his run in the television events as he made his way into the quarter and semi-finals of many noticeable events regularly and enjoyed every moment. Now he is at home resting after getting his injuries treated. He might
think of returning to the game but that still has to be decided.
