Ian McCulloch struggles with his neck and shoulder injuries – Snooker News
Recently finished 2012 World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield in May was the last event for the English potter, Ian McCulloch as he announced his retirement and went back home to live with his family.
One of the basic reasons for his retirement was the injuries he received in his neck and shoulders which made him suffer from pain during his campaign in the 2011-12 Snooker Season.
While speaking to the local media about his injuries, McCulloch said, “I began having problems about five years ago. I’d just beaten Graeme Dott in the World Championship when he was defending champion. Basically, I started getting pains in my arms which
would go away after a few minutes at the table.”
Injuries in his neck and shoulders were quite severe but he continued taking part in the snooker tournaments which might have increased the problem that led him to retire from the game. However, after retiring from World Snooker professional circuit, he
had his neck and shoulders treated. Right now he is at home taking rest while his injuries heal.
He said, “It was a muscular thing, a repetition injury built up by years of playing snooker every day, and my body was simply paying the price.”
The other season for his retirement was the addition of new snooker events in a calendar. The World Snooker Chairman, Barry Hearn made this announcement during the final stages of the 2012 World Snooker Championship which stated that the snooker governing
body, World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) has decided to add more snooker events in a calendar.
Adding new events means that a player will have to play all the year which offended many potters who have families back home and playing in those events will not give them spare time to spend with their loved ones. McCulloch also disliked this new addition
for the same reason and retired from the game. The fans will definitely miss the dynamic playing style of McCulloch. It will be interesting to see how he is able to deal with his injuries and make a recovery.
