Ian Mongan not happy with surface at Lingfield after finishing ninth with his ride Shamir on 27th October

After getting the ninth position while riding Shamir at Join Hot To Trot Racing Club Handicap on 27th October at Lingfield, jockey Ian Mongan voiced quite deep and grave concerns regarding the condition of the track. It might as well be the reason
that the ranking went way down.
"When we tell the officials and the clerk of the course how bad the track is, it falls on deaf ears”, Mongan told At The Races.
According to Ian Mongan, for a jockey to manage on such a track is possible but the kickback at the course makes it quite challenging for the rides to adjust and it can also have an adverse affect on horses, for example a horse can lose an eye.
He went on to explain that the British Horseracing Authority being so concerned about the whipping rules should pay some attention to the condition of the grounds too, as it is also against the welfare of the horses who are suffering miserably.
If the condition persists, Ian Mongan is doubtful that top trainers will send their horses to this track or the top jockeys will be willing to put the rides under such deprived conditions of the track.
Lingfield is one of the best known as a winter all weather flat racing course and in light of that, clerk of the racecourse, Neil Mackenzie has said that the track serves racing nearly ninety odd times a year and is at its peak during cold and wet weather
so the coming up months will surely help.
The worrisome jockeys Ryan Moore and Richard Hughes expressed similar views regarding the track.
Despite the trying track, the race was won by Chris Wall trained Citrus Star with Ted Durcan who was soon followed by Seek The Fair Land trained by Jim Boyle and ridden by Eddie Ahern.
Positioned third in the race was Steed, under charge Richard Guest and ridden by Robert L Butler. Jeremy Noseda’s Call To Reason finished before Ian Mongan’s ride, Shamir.
The sooner the track gets settled the better it would be otherwise the horses’ performance will get hampered and the results will start getting miscalculated.
