Ian Poulter aiming to give his best at Augusta National – Golf news
World number 16 Ian Poulter is eyeing a thrilling performance at Augusta National Golf Club, where the 2011 Masters will be held.
The Englishman shared his plans with the press on Monday after reaching the Augusta clubhouse.
He said, “I need to push on. When I perform well I think I can play with the best players in the world. I have done enough homework and I am ready to go now. Being in the lead after two rounds last year was great. Knowing you can play the golf course is always a plus.”
The 35-year-old added that he aims to replicate the performance which he delivered during the Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010. The veteran was selected for the team owing to his brilliant performance in the Accenture Match Play Championship, which was the first event of the World Golf Championships. The flamboyant Englishman lived up to the expectations of his captain Colin Montgomerie and contributed four points in an aggregate of 14 1/2.
Poulter led his side to a victory and won the USB Hong Kong Open right after that. He is targeting to bring in the same form before teeing off with 98 players on Thursday.
However, his form at the American courses does not support his bid. He stepped onto the American soil in a bid to win, but could not relish success. He lost his title to Luke Donald in the Accenture Match Play Championship and failed to finish in top 10 in all the events at the Professional Golfers Association Tour. The constant failures pushed him down to the 16th spot from the 7th, but Poulter is not ready to give up despite the setback.
He said, “It's a course I can play some of my best golf around and I would like to rectify the mistakes I made.”
Poulter is gearing himself up for the Augusta by taking antihistamine injections due to his asthma concern during the spring season. Let’s see if he is able to win the Green Jacket or not.
