Ian Poulter and Paul Lawrie – European Ryder Cup players with inspiring stories
The PGA Tour Chief Executive, Sandy Jones will be a proud man when the European Ryder Cup duo, Ian Poulter and Paul Lawrie, take to the field in Chicago.
Both, the Englishman and the Scottish professional, started off their careers as PGA assistants successfully coming through a three-year PGA training program. This program has grown since then and has become a complete degree program.
Lawrie and Poulter are now world famous golfers, who enjoy a very vast fan following. Both of them started off on the PGA Tour but they enjoyed little success, winning just a tournament each.
However, they have been very successful golfers on the European Tour. Their selection in the European team shows what they are truly made of. Poulter has won eleven times on the European Tour, where as the Scottish has won eight times.
Along with the Englishman and Lawrie, Damian McGrane, a Tour winner and BMW Champion Simon Khan have come through this program as well. Producing such quality players shows the strength of this program.
"The success of Paul and Ian is testimony to their hard work, skill and determination," said Jones, who is also a board member of Ryder Cup Europe.
“PGA members fulfill a range of vital roles within the golf industry including traditional club professionals, coaches, custom-fitters, fitness and bio mechanic experts, directors of golf, club managers and retailers”.
"Through a strong national and regional schedule we are able to continue to provide playing opportunities for members while the PGA Europro Tour is another opportunity for aspiring tour players aiming to reach the top,” said Jones.
The PGA Tour Chief Executive hopes that many young players will look towards the Ryder Cup duo as inspirations.
"I'm sure many of our PGA members who still nurse a desire to reach the top of golf will be inspired by seeing Paul and Ian involved in the Ryder Cup".
The Ryder Cup is one special tournament in which everybody loves to get involved. Those who are really passionate about the game, dream to be a part of this unique event.
Ryder Cup is not about money, it is about pure professionalism.
