Ian Poulter and Stewart Cink all square at the Accenture Match Play championship
Defending champion, Ian Poulter, is all square with American, Stewart Cink, as the duo played 18 holes of the first round of WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship.
Poulter didn’t have such an easy start on way to his title defence. Cink finished second at the Match play championship in 2008, third the following year and fifth in 2010 when Poulter won.
Cink and Poulter have also played against one another in three Ryder Cup matches, so they were familiarized with each other.
Before the start of the first round, Ian was excited and disappointed about the match play. Excited well because it’s a world golf championship, but disappointed since the player wanted a later tee time. The reason being that Ian wanted more people there
as he teed off and also he wanted to play in some sun rather than early morning.
Match play is actually Ian’s favourite play format, as is evident from Poulter's 18-7 record at the Accenture Match Play championship.
"I just switch the on button on", Poulter said. "I’m easily distracted, to be honest, but I’m not easily distracted in match play. It goes back to my school report. It sums me up in a nutshell: Very easily distracted but when he concentrates, it works fantastic.
"So I just need to do that and learn how to do that every single week I play golf. But for some reason, I seem to be able to do it in match play. So hopefully that button gets switched on the first hit".
English player, Luke Donald, is in a strong 6-up lead against American Charley Hoffman after twelve holes.  The Ryder Cup star is doing very well on the same Dove Mountain Course where last year Poulter beat Paul Casey.
Luke started off good at the second hole where he posted a birdie. By the seventh hole, Donald was 4 up and now after thirteen holes he has hoisted himself to six up. After thirteen holes, Luke has actually won the first round 6 and 5.
With so many individual matches going on, the Accenture Match play is getting more interesting by the minute.
