Ian Poulter awarded for his success
European Ryder Cupper, Ian Poulter has been lauded with the player of the month award for September. Poulter had been very instrumental in his team’s success in Chicago. He led the late charge for the Europeans and secured a historic comeback.
He, not only won all his matches, giving four points out of four to his team, but his performance in the fourballs really turned things around for the Europeans.
Ian was down an out in his fourballs match but a late surge on the last five holes really gave Europe a sniff at the Ryder Cup trophy on Saturday.
The Englishman birdied the last five holes to not only win his match but his inspirational victory also gave a boost to the team, which led to one of the most amazing comebacks in the Ryder Cup history.
Poulter said, "I'm delighted. The week at Medinah was truly incredible and something I will always cherish".
"It is important to note that this was a team event and I couldn't have played the way I did without the support and belief I had from all my teammates, including caddies, the four vice-captains and, of course, captain Olazabal".
The Englishman had been performing consistently for the last couple of months. It is amazing that, on the PGA Tour, he made the cut in all the fifteen events that he entered – such is the level of his game.
In the FedEx Cup Playoffs, as well, he showed the character of an all round golfer. He secured a T12 finish in the BMW Championship, which shows the quality he is made of.
However, this was one of the great performances by the world number 26. The Englishman secured all four points out of four but his stunning comeback in the fourballs really inspired Europe.
Poulter was one of the few Europeans who were targeted by the fans at the Medinah Golf and Country Club but to his credit, he remained calm and composed, focusing on his task to the very best of levels.
"This accolade is for all of us. The Ryder Cup will always be very special to me because of the pure pride and passion it brings out in everyone and I am already looking forward to Gleneagles in 2014".
