Ian Poulter criticizes French Open set up
With the end of the second day of the French Open, the leaderboard has completely been changed. It was an interesting day overall, with many players giving an unexpected performance. Some of them, after a bad first day, are back in the game.
One of those players is Ian Poulter. Poulter is back in the race for the trophy after giving a performance, which is considered low by his standards.
At the end of the first day, Poulter was one-over par, as he scored two bogeys on the twelfth and fourteenth hole and a birdie on the thirteenth hole.
The 36-year-old had a much better round on the second day. On the front nine, he scored only one birdie, on the sixth hole. On the back nine, Poulter carded three birdies on the eleventh, seventeenth and eighteenth hole and two bogeys on the twelfth and
thirteenth hole.
There were no eagles or double bogeys during the Englishman’s two days at the Le Golf National. Poulter’s score for the day was two-under par and his total score was one-under par.
Poulter is tied at the fourteenth position with Graeme McDowell, Matteo Manassero, Thongchai Jaidee and eight other players.
On the second day, the number 29 in the world ranking was able to bounce back, as he showed tremendous signs of improvement.
That being said, the English professional golfer was still not happy with the course. According to him, there is no proper set-up in the course.
Poulter said, "Paris National is a magnificent course, but they have got the set-up completely wrong. I'm amazed how they have brought in pretty much every fairway. They've made it too tough".
It is no surprise, the Le Golf National, the venue for the French Open, is one of the most difficult courses on the European Tour.
David Probyn, the Director of the tournament agreed with Poulter that the course is very difficult. He also said that there have been no changes in the fairways of the course. On the contrary, the rough has been very wet, that is the only change.
"It's tougher than we would like it to be, but I think the targets are still there to hit," he said.
This could really be a problem for the organizers of the tournament, keeping in mind, this course is the venue for the Ryder Cup 2018.
