Ian Poulter finds form at the Heritage with 66 on Friday – Golf news
Ian Poulter has finally found the form on American courses. The Englishman compiled a score of 5-under par, 66 in the second round of the $5.7-million Heritage tournament, which is underway at the Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
The flamboyant Englishman stepped into the second round with a 69, which was quite impressive for the start and gradually, he wrapped it up with a 66 after he birdied four holes in the front-nine and one at the back-nine.
The pro attained the desired level of ease with the course and finished third in driving accuracy.
However, the 35-year-old could not relish much on the back-nine, as the greens were comparatively harder there, which he knew and later mentioned in a greenside interview.
He said that he has begun to cope up with the weather and pollen in America, which has now started to work in his favour. He also mentioned his efforts which he had been putting in the practice rounds on this course. He said that his hard work had begun
to pay off and he was certain that he would finish amongst the top five players by the end of the week.
Poulter is the 16th seed in the world and it is his accurate short game which has helped him win 10 titles on the European Tour. Unlike his stats on his home tour, the player has not achieved much on the PGA Tour.
He has a solitary victory on the PGA circuit, which was added to his list of achievements in 2010. Ever since, he has not been able to lift a title on American soil.
In 2011, he took part in six events and won none. Surprisingly, he made the cut in all the six events, but could not finish in top three in any of the events, which reflected his weakness.
When asked the possible reasoning behind the struggle on the American courses, the Englishman blamed the weather and his asthma concern as the reasons. However, with his Friday’s performance, one can see the player finally finding his game on the course
with hard and fast greens.
