Ian Poulter finished third at the Arnold Palmer Invitational
Ian Poulter finished on the third position, seven strokes behind the leader Tiger Woods, at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
The 36-year-old English professional golf player recorded the best result of the current year. He scored 6-under par and 282 strokes in total. He was just two strokes behind the runner-up.
He started the tournament with a 1-under 71 score in the first round. He made three birdies and two bogeys on Thursday.
Then, he added four more birdies on the leaderboard scores and carded only one bogey. His third round performance was amazing.
He started the round on Saturday with an eagle and ended by scoring four more impressive birdies.
However, he was unable to score well on Sunday, due to the heavy winds, and carded four bogeys at day-end.
“Well, totally different wind from what we have had the last three days on this golf course with a north-westerly wind, it plays very, very difficult. The pins were in positions which that wind kept you going at a number of those pins,” Poulter said.
“Just a nice run of practice to be honest next week. I think looking at my schedule, I've got a nice practice routine Monday through Sunday”.
“Going to fly up to Augusta on Monday, hopefully be as prepared as I possibly can and hopefully be feeling a little stronger as well,” he added.
Poulter scored 74 in the final round and finished on the third position. Graeme McDowell also scored 74, as he also faced difficulty while scoring due to the heavy winds.
However, Tiger Woods impressed all the spectators by displaying an enormous scoring of 70 in the final round and 13-under 275 on the leaderboard.
He is the winner of the tournament. He claimed the victory by five strokes ahead of McDowell.
Now Poulter has a two-week time period to practise and get ready for the Masters, the first major of the year.
The field is tough and Poulter will be meeting with all the leading players again, including Woods, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer and Luke Donald.
The Masters Tournament will be staged at the Augusta National Golf Club, from April 05 – 08, 2012.
