Ian Poulter finishes tied for the 15th position at the Ballantine's Championship
Ian Poulter scored a 7-under 281, at the Ballantine's Championship, finishing tied for the 15th position with four other professionals.
The 11-time European Tour winner was planning to be on the top of the leaderboard, but faced tough resistance from rivals throughout the four-days.
Last time he won the title at the Volvo World Match Play Championship in 2011. He has been striving to become the winner at the European Tour and PGA Tour events since then.
The weather was unfavourable on Thursday. Every player faced trouble scoring in the first round of the Blackstone Golf Club, Icheon in Seoul, South Korea.
The 36-year-old English professional golf player shot a 3-over 75 in the first round and was unable to score well in the windy weather.
Due to such worrisome conditions, he dropped to the lower position on leaderboard. He planned to do his best from the second round.
"Yeah, yesterday was frustrating," Poulter said. "I generally played pretty solid golf, I like it windy which is exactly what we got yesterday and I never took advantage at all. I hit a couple of poor shots and three three-putts put me three-over for the
day.”
He performed well on Friday. He made six impressive birdies and only one bogey in the second round, finding a spot among the top-25 players.
He displayed an amazing performance on Saturday, as he played a bogey-free round and shot three birdies in total.
Such an outstanding performance improved his position at the Ballantine's Championship, as he also boosted his confidence to record a top finish on Sunday.
He continued to pile up scores. Poulter shot four birdies in the final round and he also carded two bogeys, adding only -2 to the final scores.
Bernd Wiesberger is the winner of the title. He scored an 18-under 270 and played well in all the four rounds. More interestingly, he displayed three bogey-free rounds and won with a lead of five strokes over the runner-up Richie Ramsay.
Poulter finished 11 strokes behind the leader and shared the 15th position with Jamie Donaldson, David Oh, Y.E. Yang and Kiradech Aphibarnrat.
Now, Poulter has to improve his putting and performance on the greens, so that he can score more birdies and save bogeys in the upcoming tournaments.
