Ian Poulter heats up battle on the eve of the Ryder Cup
The real battle starts tomorrow but Ian Poulter has already heated things up in the press conference today. Poulter has come out and said that he is out to kill the American Dream of lifting the Ryder Cup.
Poulter, who will be playing in his fourth Ryder Cup, is all fired up and raring to go at Medinah Golf and Country Club.
Ian knows that all of the players taking part in the Ryder Cup are good friends but this tournament brings the best out of them.
The Ryder Cup is unique in the sense that all these players play together on the tour but when they come out at the Ryder Cup, it seems as if they are fierce rivals.
He said, 'We are all good friends, both sides of the pond, but there's something about Ryder Cup which kind of intrigues me'.
Many of the European golfers play on the PGA Tour in America. Most of them even live in the USA permanently. However, Poulter feels that this factor will not lower their desire to win laurels for their continent.
'It means too much to us for it ever to lose that edge,' he said. 'This event is unique. I hate to say we don't get on for three days, but there is that divide - and it's not that we don't like each other’.
Half of the European side resides in the USA and now Rory McIlroy is all set to join them as well. The world number one is all set to sell his mansion in Ireland.
Rumours are that he will buy a new house in the States, where he will live with his new girl friend, Caroline Wozniacki.
Poulter is known for his outspokenness. Rory McIlroy, however, did try to calm things down slightly. The current PGA Champion said that ‘kill’ will not be right word, they would rather like to beat them.
It will not be an easy ride for the Europeans, especially for Poulter, after the comments he has made. It is very like that the fans will make it a hostile environment. After all, it is more than just a tournament, it is about continental supremacy.
