Ian Poulter hopeful for the last spot in the Ryder Cup team
Players are trying their best for the qualification of the biggest event of the year, the Ryder Cup 2012. This is going to be the most prestigious event of the year, as the best in the world are going against each other.
This year the captain for the European team is the Spanish professional golfer, Jose Maria Olazabal and the captain for the American team is Davis Love III. These captains have the keys roles in their respective teams.
All the European players are hoping to be a part of the Maria Olazabal side in September. The list of players also include English professional golfer, Ian Poulter.
The Ryder Cup is not an event between individual players but it is a match, in which, two teams play - the American team and the European team.
The stage for this cup is the Medinah Country Club, which is situated just outside Chicago. The Ryder Cup will open for the public on 22nd of September.
However, the actual tournament is going to tee off on the 28th of September and it is going to end on the 30th September.
Poulter has finally made it after performing quite well on this weekend. This weekend the best in golf traveled to Kiawah Island for the last major of the year, the U.S. PGA Championship.
The event was won by the 23-year-old Rory McIlroy and Poulter was able to occupy the tied third spot. He had a magnificent score of four-under par in the major.
He is now on the tenth spot and has replaced Spain’s Sergio Garcia. There is still a chance for Garcia and Belgian Nicolas Colsaerts to remove Poulter from the Ryder Cup team.
Even if he does not qualify automatically, he still has a good chance of being one of the captain’s picks.
In an interview he said, “I was just outside the points, now I'm just inside the points. I don't know how that's going to play out obviously with Gleneagles (next week's Johnnie Walker Championship is the last counting event), but hopefully that's good enough
to get me an automatic spot”.
