Ian Poulter not happy with BBC
The English player Ian Poulter isn’t happy with the BBC Sports Personality of the year award. This Sunday, the award went to the jockey Tony McCoy. Second place went to darts champion Phil Taylor and heptathlete Jessica Ennis received the third rank.
The golfer, Graeme McDowell who was also a nominee of the award came in fifth place with World number one golfer Lee Westwood receiving fourth place. Both the players had amazing years so far and according to Ian, they deserved a lot more. After the results
were announced, Poulter criticised BBC and gave the following comments on twitter
"Darts comes second in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year voting, get a grip. Congrats to AP. A great sportsman and a gent but he wasn't my choice. "It's a farce. How could Graeme McDowell or Lee Westwood not win? GMac wins a Major and Westy's world
no.1. That's b******s."
Along with these statements, Poulter even got sarcastic due to the outcome of the awards. He even wrote: "I cant believe I didn't get a vote for winning the World Tiddlywink Championships. I'm gutted."
With such strong words coming from a wise player such as Poulter, it is evident how furious he was. By the looks of it, it seemed as if Poulter was more depressed than the nominated McDowell. Graeme felt very honoured to be even nominated for such a prestigious
award.
Winning the Wales Open, US Open, Andalucía Valderrama Masters and of course the Chevron World Challenge, McDowell has had an amazing season. Along with his victories, McDowell’s singles win over Hunter Mahan in the Ryder Cup this year was just legendary.
Graeme, who emerged as the Ryder Cup hero for the Europeans, is currently ranked seventh in the world.
As for Poulter, the emotional golfer does need to understand that when two compete, one has to loose. The PDC darts chairman, Barry Hearn, said that he knows Ian being a great golfer is a decent sportsman as well. Hearn commented that being a good athlete,
Ian respects other athletes as well.
The winner of the award, McCoy, did perform remarkably this year as well. Including the Gran National, the jockey had a huge list of victories. He also suffered an injury that proved to be fatal to his horse. Being injured in that incident, Tony didn’t let
the bruises get to him and was ready for a race just five minutes later.
Regardless of who the winner is, all the nominees for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award were amazing athletes.
