Ian Poulter planning to retain the Volvo World Match Play Championship title
Ian Poulter is gearing up to defend his Volvo World Match Play Championship title, from May 17 to 20, at the Finca Cortesin, Casares in Andalucía, Spain.
The field is set and the upcoming edition of the European Tour taged event will be having 24 global stars and tough rivals.
It was established in 1964 and will be presenting the 47th episode. The official prize fund is €3,400,000 and all the players are redy to grab such handsome figures.
Last year, Poulter defeated the famous Luke Donald by one-point lead and recorded his first win at such mega event.
Poulter is confident to be impressive again. He is also planning to record some more memorable strokes, which will take him on the top of the leaderboard.
However, the victory is not that easy, as he has to face five major champions. On the other hand, Darren Clarke and Paul Lawrie's presence in the field is making the tournament more appealing and tougher.
Firstly, Poulter desires to repeat the trend of Ernie Els, who amazed his fans worldwide after recording hat-trick of victories in 2004.
Secondly, Poulter also aims to be like Seve Ballesteros, Hale Irwin and Gary Player that have retained the title impressively and added huge respect.
“I love the cut and thrust of match play and find it a refreshing change from the usual stroke play format we play week in week out on the Tour,” said Poulter.
“And with the fact it is Ryder Cup year, I think it will be even more exciting with every match from the group stages to the final a chance for aspiring team members to impress Captain Olazábal in what is our final chance to play match player before Medinah”.
He is also excited for the Ryder Cup set to be staged in the month of September. He is planning to make it to the European Tour event, by displaying an amazing performance in every tournament he plays.
The victory is possible, but not easy. Poulter has to make some leading scores. If he plays his best then he can retain the title.
