Ian Poulter ready to fight spring allergies before the Masters - Golf News
Ian Poulter suffers from pollen allergies during the spring season, but this time he won’t let it hamper his perform at the Augusta National, where the 2011 Masters will take place. The world-number 15 seeks to take an antihistamine injection before taking
a flight to the venue to overcome his allergies and be able to compete.
The Hertfordshire born golfer has been facing a tough time in the United States ever since spring has arrived. He suffered from hay fever and other allergies in the past month, which eventually affected his game negatively. The 35-year-old faltered in both
events on the World Golf Championships, but no more, as he has decided to put an end to it. He hopes that the antihistamine injection will help him out at the Augusta National, where he will fight the top 50 players of the world for the Masters title.
Before the Augusta National he will head to Bay Hill Club, where he will play in the Arnold Palmer Invitational for the prize of $1,080,000. This will be his second visit to the course, with his first visit coming two years back. The player is destined to
meet the fast greens and his pollen allergy during his stay at the winter family house of Arnold Palmer. Poulter knows he will need more than a regular practice to beat the signature Arnold Palmer hard greens.
Poulter explained his concern and said, “I much prefer that, because the green consistency normally is pretty firm and pretty fast. When there’s been rough around the green, I think it plays very difficult to hit good chip shots when you have missed the
greens. For now, with the way they have changed it, tight lies, perfect.”
The 10-time winner on the European tour seems uptight with the Masters approaching and he is right to be concerned. The English golfer has been unsuccessful on the PGA Tour as he failed to make a mark since the start of the season. The reason of his failure
was the lack of tournaments played in during 2010.
Poulter said that he concentrated more on the European Tour, as he wanted to play in the 2010 Ryder Cup and hence neglected the importance of the PGA Tour events. This made him vulnerable on the fast greens, which eventually reflected in his performance.
However, Poulter is ready to shed his winless period, as he is ready to give his best at the Bay Hill. He said, “I’m conscious of it. I think I should be winning more. And I’m trying hard and working hard to do so.”
Poulter will battle Graeme McDowell, Tiger Woods, Rickie Folwer and Hunter Mahan in the six million dollar event to gear himself for the first major championship of the season.
